How to Make the Most of a Family Beach Holiday

If you’re looking forward to this year’s family beach holiday, here are a few tips to make the best of it.

The classic beach holiday is a tradition enjoyed by families all over the world, dating back as far as the 18th century. For those who live in the city, there is nothing more relaxing than a weekend in the sun, surrounded by sea air and white sand as the waves lap the shore. Beach holidays need some planning and prep to make sure you have everything you need when you’re traveling as a family, however, so it’s best to plan for the occasion carefully. You’ll want to do everything you can to make their most of your time by the sea, so follow these four tips to make your trip memorable for all the right reasons.

1. Load Up on Sunscreen

The last thing you want is to get sunburnt while you’re on holiday, so make sure you pack sunscreen for both the adults and the kids. Prolonged exposure to the sun is not good for the skin, no matter how cool the climate, plus painful burns can quickly surface in hot climates, so it’s best to take precautions. Make sure everyone stays hydrated, and stay in the shade wherever possible to avoid sunstroke.

2. Don’t Plan to Spend All Your Time on the Beach

However relaxing a few days in the sun might sound, you should include other activities in your itinerary. Not only will small children get bored doing the same thing hour after hour, but you might need some shade from the sun or to shelter from bad weather at some point during your stay. It’s best to have some other family-friendly activities up your sleeve, like a trip to the local museum or an Escape Room Richmond experience that will bond everyone together.

3. Choose Your Accommodation Carefully

You never know how young children are going to fare on holiday, so it’s best to book your accommodation close to the beach to avoid long drives out to the coast. If you’ve been up all night with children who wouldn’t sleep, at least you can all get out in the fresh air without too much effort the next morning! You should also make sure the hotel or villa you stay in is family-friendly and that there is plenty for kids to do in and around the resort.

4. Research Restaurants In Advance

Unless you’re staying at an all-inclusive resort, you’ll need to find places to eat during your stay. Rather than wandering around a town, you don’t know with several hungry children, it’s best to research (and preferably book) child-friendly restaurants in advance. If you don’t have time to do this before you travel, the hotel staff should be able to make some recommendations and even reserve tables for you at nearby eateries.

A family beach holiday can be a lot of fun, but you always need to be prepared in case your trip doesn’t go as planned. Talk to your travel operator or hotel owner about any special requirements you might have and don’t forget to research the area you’re staying in before you go.
