Getting About

Car Rental

We highly recommend that you hire a car to explore the island. We can arrange for a hire car to be delivered to Petite Anse Hotel and are negotiating special rates for 1 week or more rentals. Normal rates vary with the time of year but range from $45US to $60US a day. Driving in Grenada is an experience and not for the faint hearted. Being independent traveller's we are sure you are probably used to this. The Grenadian system is the same as the UK . Ideally you have to be 25 years old or over to rent a vehicle. Travellers must secure a Grenada driving permit before taking to the wheel. Permits maybe obtained from any police station in the south for $30EC. The car rental companies that we deal with will, on sight of your driving licence, write a Grenadian licence out for you sparing you the inconvenience of having to go to a Police Station.

Seat belts are required and for drivers and passengers. Please be aware that some of the local drivers drive aggressively and tooting of horns is a common day occurrence. This could mean get out of the way or thank you or I'm coming through or I'm taking over or just for the hell of it! Drivers should be aware of hazardous road conditions, pedestrians, drunken drivers and thin curvy roads.

Bikes and Mopeds

Independent travellers with a sense of adventure may wish to rent a bike or scooter. Mountain biking can be a great way to get to know the local terrain and mopeds and scooters allow a great deal of mobility and freedom to explore the island as the ocean wind blows by. Scooters are usually more economical the rental cars, though road conditions can also make them more hazardous. We would only really recommend hiring a vehicle but would be happy to assist you further.

Boats and Ferries

The island state of Grenada is composed of three different islands. Grenada , Petite Martinique and Carriacou. Most vacationers tend to stay on the larger Grenada but lodgings are available on Carriacou and the undeveloped Petite Martinque. These two islands are popular day trips for people staying on Grenada and many say a visit to the sister islands is not to be missed. You can travel between the islands by a convenient ferry which makes daily trips.

Another great way of seeing the sister islands and perhaps beyond is by chartering a yacht. The crew will do all the hard work and you can sit back and enjoy the experience.
